The Panama Canal has endured severe drought in recent months, drastically reducing the number of vessels that may safely transit the canal between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, resulting in a backlog of ships awaiting safe passage and creating lengthy delays. Although Seaboard Marine works on a pre-booking basis, these difficulties have impacted our vessel operations and increased operational expenses. Effective January 14, 2024, a new Panama Canal Drought Surcharge at USD $150.00 per TEU will apply to all shipments crossing Panama to ensure the ongoing movement of your valued cargo.
We have worked hard to reduce the impact on our customers as the number of vessels safely passing through the canal has declined. However, due to current circumstances, the Panama Canal Drought Surcharge is necessary to provide the high level of service you have come to expect from Seaboard Marine.
We are committed to providing dependable and efficient shipping services at Seaboard Marine. We recognize that timely cargo transportation is essential to your business and aim to meet and surpass your expectations. Seaboard Marine is closely monitoring as the situation remains fluid and will advise you of any further changes as needed.
As always, we thank you for your continued support.
Please note that changes requiring 30-day notice are published in the respective public tariff. This advisory shows some of these changes as a courtesy to our valued customers, and in no way replaces the application of the public tariff.
