The Government of Costa Rica recently clarified the application of the regulations decreed under the new law Reglamento Borrador de Impuesto Valor Agre. Under new guidance, Seaboard Marine is pleased to announce the following changes:
- The Terminal Handling Charge increase that will go into effect on July 28, 2019 for shipments to Costa Rica (Southbound) has been reduced.
- The scheduled July 28, 2019 increase on shipments from Costa Rica (Northbound) has been eliminated.
Revised Advisory:
Seaboard Marine wishes to advise its valued customers on clarification provided from the Costa Rican government on the previously announced implementation of a 13% Value Added Tax effective July 1, 2019.
The new tax will be applied to all services performed for Ocean Carriers when vessels arrive at Costa Rican ports to discharge and load containers. Seaboard Marine will increase the Costa Rica Terminal Handling Charge by $45 per container for shipments to Costa Rica.
The increase, effective July 28, 2019, will apply to both tariff rates and service contracts.
