As we have previously advised, on Tuesday, May 31st, 2022, a primary road utilized to move containers to and from the El Salvador border to Santo Tomas, Guatemala, collapsed.  Although the authorities erected a temporary bridge that became operational on June 4, 2022, that bridge also failed.  As a result, truck traffic is now being rerouted to the border crossing at ”San Cristobal” until authorities can construct a replacement bridge on the main highway.  To cover the additional costs of the circumstances effecting the transportation of cargo to and from El Salvador, a new cost recovery surcharge of $260.00 per container (all sizes and types) will be applied to all effected shipments that moved via the alternate route.

Effective July 17, 2022, the charge will be increased to $310.00 per container if the replacement bridge on the primary road has not been completed.

This new cost recovery surcharge will be applied to all current and future rate agreements covering shipments to and from El Salvador and will remain in effect until truck traffic is permitted to return to the main highway and border crossing.
