Seaboard Marine proudly participated in the annual telethon held last week to benefit the Liga Contra El Cancer (the League Against Cancer). For 19 years, Seaboard Marine has been an event sponsor as a part of our ongoing commitment to the communities where we live and work. Seaboard Marine, again, presented a donation check on Telemundo’s live broadcast of the annual telethon to raise funds for those less fortunate.
Liga Contra El Cancer was founded in Miami in 1975 as a community based, non-profit organization and served as an intake and treatment facility for individuals with cancer. Once determined to be eligible for services, patients receive treatment at no cost. Since its founding, the organization has provided free medical care to over 66,473 persons from 50 countries. In the same period, 14,509 patients have been admitted to local hospitals under the supervision of this organization, and these patients receive treatment for a wide range of cancer types.
Seaboard Marine’s President Edward Gonzalez said, “Seaboard Marine has been a long-time supporter of the Liga Contra el Cancer, a wonderful organization. Many of our employees and their families have unfortunately been impacted by cancer and they are aware of the outstanding work done by the League. Dedicated to our community, this South Florida organization is so often able to turn sadness into opportunity. The League accepts patients, children or adults, without distinction of race, creed or nationality. Seaboard Marine is proud to again be involved with the fundraising efforts of the Liga Contra el Cancer and applauds them for their tremendous work.”
