Seaboard Marine recently gifted the Jamaica Cancer Society with a refurbished cargo container in collaboration with the Jamaica Producers Group, a long-time customer. Serving as many as 20,000 Jamaicans yearly, the Jamaica Cancer Society was facing a challenge in their screening clinic. The organization was quickly running out of space to store materials and equipment. Our office in Kingston, Jamaica learned of the challenge the organization was facing and assisted by promptly donating one of our cargo containers.
For the past 65 years, the Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) has been providing screening to underserved Jamaicans in various communities across the island. These services are provided at a fraction of the price compared to other private facilities and often offered free of charge to those in need. The organization’s mission is to provide advocacy, education, and, most importantly, cancer screening to residents of the island. No one is turned away because they cannot afford their testing, and that has been the saving grace of many Jamaicans who access early detection and treatment due to JCS’s work.
Michael Leslie, Acting Executive Director of the Jamaica Cancer Society, expressed his gratitude saying, “It is heartwarming to know that there are still kind sponsors such as Seaboard Marine and Jamaica Producers Group who continue to support our efforts.”
CorahAnn Sylvester, General Manager of Seaboard Marine Jamaica, said, “Seaboard Marine has, over the years, participated in and contributed to various fundraising events held by the JCS. Having had a number of staff members and their families affected by cancer and seeing the invaluable, life-changing work of the Jamaica Cancer Society, we happily donated.”
